LOLLY GOBBLE BLISS BOMBS

Do you ever make deals with yourself? Not like Deal or No Deal kind. More like the if I do this... the universe will do this in exchange.

On Tuesday morning I sat down at my sewing machine, and I was thinking “If I get this skirt done, I will wear it this afternoon to the Oncologist and the news will be good”. Jarvis was being obliging and having his morning sleep, so I sewed like crazy. I stuck to my no pattern full skirt that I am familiar with, as I didn't think I had the time to experiment.

Jarvis woke just as I finished attaching the waistband. So I had to cheat a little and go without a button and button hole.

I wore the skirt on Tuesday to the Oncologist, and covered up the no button option by wearing it with a belt. The news was good (as I wrote in yesterday's post)

Now I am almost at the end of my fabric stash. Starting to feel nervous. What am I going to sew???? No fabric! I have asked for fabric off everyone for my birthday, either that or a gift vouchers to Spotlight. Fingers crossed I will have some fabric to sew with next week.

The fabric is actually a lovely crisp white, with a red, pink, orange and lavender print. Thinking this will be great in our hot summer.

Not sure what I am doing in this image. A model I am not! Look at those Jazz hands!

Tamika named this skirt, because I have an addiction to Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs and because she said the skirt looks like lollies.

CARAMEL KOALA BEAR

I dug through my fabric stash and found a gorgeous piece of caramel cord, only 60cm long, not a lot of fabric, but just enough to make Jarvis a pair of sarouels. Now we have a cute boy posing as a Caramel Koala Bear in his caramel cords and bear beanie.

I cut them out following the pattern I have already drafted for these pants, allowing a little extra because of the no stretch factor. It was an easy sew on the overlocker and sewing machine, which I love. To add a bit of extra detail I added a triangular pocket and edged it in brown cotton.

Once on Jarvis, I realised they are a touch to big for his skinny frame, but I don’t mind. I think the extra ‘puff’ looks cute on him. Being elastic waist they are easy for him to wear and super comfy and warm. All bonuses.

Jarvis had had so many remarks and compliments on all of his sarouels, when he is out and about, I should learn to say thank you I made them and give them a business card.

Trying  to do a photoshoot and we kept getting photobombed by Tira!

The cardigan is another beautiful hand knitted creation from my Aunty from last year. It is now a little short, but I love it so much.

CHOCOLATE HEARTS

I finished my skirt from last weeks post. Now named, Chocolate Hearts.

As you know the fabric I have had for several winters. With my normal no pattern style of sewing I simply cut the fabric into three equal pieces and a section left over for the waist band. I attached the three pieces together, using French seams. With no brown zipper on hand I used a hot pink one.

I made a simple waist band and lined it with chocolate cotton, I would have preferred to use something other, but trying to stick to my personal goal of not buying anything new.

As usual I avoided button holes, by using a zip and hook and eyes for the skirt closure.

The skirt got its first outing in the Valley for Yum Cha last Sunday. It fits really well, and it is nice and warm. The only fault I noticed was when I got out in the sun, (doggy eyes did not pick up on it inside) I have sewn one panel of fabric upside down. Opps, only just noticeable, but now I know it; it is bothering the OCD in me.

The shots were taken in the back yard, picking lemons for a yummy lemon cheesecake Justin made us.

 Give Me A Chocolate Heart

Everyone loves a delicacy
And most of all miss dainty me
Who's not so dainty now, I say
There's so many wrappers to throw away

Chocolate has a place in my heart
It's a springboard for my life's jumpstart
Whenever I am feeling low
It's to the chocolate box I go

I think if I eat enough sweets
My heart will turn to yummy treats
And how could that be bad?
In the company of chocolate no one's sad

They'll love my dark chocolate soul
You can't resist what makes you whole
Oh, make me chocolate filled
If everyone loves me, I'll be thrilled

TARGET LOGO SKIRT

I finished my “Target Skirt” last week, and it got its first outing to Buddha’s Birthday celebrations at South Bank.

How gorgeous was my date for the evening. Oh and that is Jarvis's shovel growing out of my back.

Here is the original post on the skirt, when I debated if it looked too much like the Target logo. After finishing the skirt I asked Justin’s opinion and he said “it’s alright, just don’t ever wear it shopping". Hmm don’t think that was a positive answer.

My cute date and the fabric faults.

The fabric was filled with faults, colour runs and so many holes; I opted to line the skirt with raw calico. Not only to help hide the flaws but to give the skirt more weight. In typical me style of sewing I did not use a pattern, I just put the calico over the target fabric and cut the fabric to the length I wanted to wear it. Then it was a matter of just overlocking and gathering the two at the same time.

My no sewing pattern style of sewing.

Then I cut a second rectangle for a waist band. Lucky for me this all worked and came together with ease. As usual I avoided button holes, by using a zip and hook and eyes for the skirt closure. What took the longest in the making of the skirt was all of the darning I needed to do to mend all of the holes. I also slip stitched the hem to help it sit soft and full.

With the lining the skirt sits beautifully, it has a nice weight to it. I am very happy with the fit of it. But Justin's word ring in my head each time I go to wear it.... Target Logo Skirt!

TARGETING MY VINTAGE FABRIC STASH

I went through my fabric stash and found this piece of material. I have had it for years and years, it was given to me by my Aunt who was a dressmaker.

I love red, and as soon as I re-discovered the fabric I thought of making it into a 1950s style full gathered skirt.

The fabric is not with out its faults; it has a section that the print has ‘run’, and through the fabric there are some holes.

The faults in the fabric is the reason my Aunt gave it to me, her client ended up not wanting to use it. The weight of the fabric is too light to make the style of skirt I am thinking of, but I think if I fully line the skirt it would be enough to weight it and help the skirt to sit, rather than just hang.

However, as soon as Justin saw it he said the print reminded him of the Target logo.

So I thought I would ask everyone else’s opinion, is the print of the fabric to “Target’ like? Will I look like I am wearing their logo?
