TARGETING MY VINTAGE FABRIC STASH

I went through my fabric stash and found this piece of material. I have had it for years and years, it was given to me by my Aunt who was a dressmaker.

I love red, and as soon as I re-discovered the fabric I thought of making it into a 1950s style full gathered skirt.

The fabric is not with out its faults; it has a section that the print has ‘run’, and through the fabric there are some holes.

The faults in the fabric is the reason my Aunt gave it to me, her client ended up not wanting to use it. The weight of the fabric is too light to make the style of skirt I am thinking of, but I think if I fully line the skirt it would be enough to weight it and help the skirt to sit, rather than just hang.

However, as soon as Justin saw it he said the print reminded him of the Target logo.

So I thought I would ask everyone else’s opinion, is the print of the fabric to “Target’ like? Will I look like I am wearing their logo?

  1. you'll have to gather it up and see how the pattern looks then, methinks ;)

    1. Just wondering if it is worth spending the money on the lining, but Sue, you maybe right. I may just have to make it and see how it looks

  2. I can see what he's saying but I don't think that will be how it looks when you've made something out of it, I think the Target resemblance will fade away/

  4. HA- I didn't even think of Target until I saw you posted it's logo. I think the print is neat despite it looking Targetish. I think once you make it, it'll look classic <3

    1. I want it to look bright and fun, against the classic shape of the skirt

  5. It is exactly the style of print I want for a reversible wrap skirt I am going to make as soon as I find some equally gorgeous fabric.

    1. I have had the fabric for over twenty years, and not sure how long my aunt had it in her stash before that. I love reversible skirts, great for when travelling.

  6. I love the fabric! It does look a little Target-y, but that's not a bad thing. It might be cute as a flared out skirt with that fabric interspersed with black panels or something like that.

    1. I was thinking of a black waist band and black band around the bottom. Hmm but now you have me thinking about black panels!

  7. I don't think people will think you're a walking Target advertisement. I think with enough gathers it'll probably look spectacular :)

    1. I guess if I do end up looking like a Target advertisement, then maybe I could hit them up for blog sponsorship?
