EVERYDAY MOMENTS: WEEK NINE

Years ago Justin bought himself a keyboard. These days it is the boys who use it for their very special LOUD concerts and dance offs.

ROBOT SAROUELS AND ROBOT BUNTING

Last week was all about Robots.

Two separate orders for robot sarouels, one for shorts and one for standard long ones. So I cheated a little, and use a fabric I love for both.

I am yet to work out the art of a perfect flat lay photo, so images do not do these justice. But that fabric is so cute. Shorts and sarouels were a teeny tiny size OO. Smaller than I normally make, but now I have requests for more from a certain daughter for her son. Tamika got excited cause she thought they were for Chester. Sorry Bubby, both for babies yet to be born.

The bunting, is a mixture of robots on one side and bright colours on the other side. Since I was making these up, (they take forever to hand cut and sew) I made double, so I still have one left. It is a double sided, handmade, three meter, eight flag, robot and bright bunting. $25 plus postage and handling.

Okay so does anyone have any hints on how to take a good flat lay photo?

AN UNCLE AND HIS NEPHEW

I use to be worried about Jarvis being rough with Chester. I never thought to be worried about Chester being rough with Jarvis.

However, I find myself saying at least half a dozen times a day "Chester, gentle hands don't do that to Jarvis". Don't get me wrong, they adore each other, Chester shakes with excitement whenever Jarvis comes near him. I wonder what it is going to be like as they get older?

27/52

My eldest Sister’s youngest child and my youngest. Jackson and Jarvis, our boys. Over at my little sister’s house ‘helping’ landscape the back garden.

There are a few, Portrait a Week options out there. A lot involve taking a portrait of your children each week. Jodi over at Che and Fidel has inspired me to pick up my camera and turn the focus inward. Since I already take 100s of photos of my children each week, so I thought I would twist the idea a little. What I never seem to get is group shots, images of the family together, whether it is my two children, Tamika and Jarvis, or me with the kids, or shots of Justin and I. So I am going to challenge myself to get one image of "my family" per week.

NAIL POLISH FOR BOYS THAT DEFINE SEXUALITY

Can nail polish define sexuality? Apparently so. Well according to some other people who have passed comment this week.

Plumbers crack boy on his bike.

Jarvis is a bit of a rough adventurous boy. A boy who is always active, climbing and throwing things. But he is also a boy who is quick to cuddle, and likes to hang out with his sister and I when we do our make-up, asking for brushes.

Tamika and I always paint our nails and Jarvis often likes to potter around with us. So this time when I did my nails, Jarvis kept pointing at his toe nails, we just put some polish on his big toe nails. I did this and then forgot about it.

My pedicure

That is until another person made the comment “are you trying to turn your son gay?” I stood there dumb founded, and did not answer. Really? Really would someone really think that nail polish defines someone sexuality?

Jarvis's offending nail polish.

Jarvis is a rough and tumble boy, who likes to mimic his big sister and I. In this instance it included nail polish. Other boy children of our family have worn nail polish. My great-nephew who is 10 months old than Jarvis will often rock nail polish, just to be like his two older sisters. So in our family we think nothing of it. In no way have we ever thought nail polish would define or change a child’s sexuality.

Are we the only family who think nothing of painting a boys toenails? Has any other parent ever had something like this said to them?
