COULD YOU? WOULD YOU?

Could you? Would you? Could you become a surrogate mother? Could you carry another couple's baby?

Surrogacy is when a woman carries and gives birth to a baby for another person or couple. In Australia, gestational surrogacy is the most common form. This means that the surrogate’s egg is not used in conception, and so she is not the biological mother. The embryo may be created using the sperm and egg of the intended parents, or donor embryos may be used.

I am watching my daughter go through some issues with her pregnancy, because of her medical history with Guillain-Barre. Any grandmother would be happy to hold their grandbaby if the Mum was struggling. Is not being a surrogate just an extended form of holding a baby?

If only, it was not too late at 22 weeks to take over and help my Bubby carry her baby to full term.

  1. I dont think I could have been a surrogate. I did not enjoy pregnancy. I did think about donating eggs though but determined I would have been too old to be a donor.

  2. I could IF I was done having my own, but when there's that longing I don't think so. That being said of it was for my children absolutely.

  3. If that was my only chance to be a mother or give my sister or someone close to me a chance to be a mother - absolutely. xx

  4. I actually think about this a lot. My sister's best friend and roommate is a gay man who has been in a committed relationship for years and was able to get married last year. Long story short, he and his partner would love to have a baby and we often joke about me carrying the baby for them. And you know what…I would. I would be happy to…proud to. I love being pregnant and I know they would make the best parents.

  6. I am the opposite. Could not give away my eggs, but more than happy to carry.

  7. I am not sure if my longing for more will ever end. But since I carry so well, and it is Tamika I am thinking about I would be more than happy to babysit for 40 weeks.

  11. This is something I would be happy to do,using my egg for my childs baby....but it would have to be a gifted egg for anyone else, as I would be too emotionally attatched , 2 kids never felt like enough.
All theoretical now as I am too old, but I enjoyed being pregnant and did think all this through, many times, as I was fit and healthy and had 2 natural births with no drugs, second one was 4 hours of mostly yoga relaxation breathing .

Heres hoping all goes along well for Tamika and bub.

  12. I think I feel similarly julie, could def consider carrying another's biological child for them, but it would be harder to let go of my own biological child. I think if it were my kids for sure I'd want to help them too. hoping tamika and babe will be a-ok. x

  13. To me to be a surrogate is just an extended babysitting session. But in my heart I know I wish for my eggs to become more children.

  14. I carry a bub well, just have trouble falling pregnant. So I think my womb would make a good surrogate. My fingers and toes are crossed for Teak.

  15. Same with Lila, I would do it for someone I knew once I know I'm done having kids. My husband might not think the same though…but absolutely for our kids. How is your daughter doing? I hope everything is okay.

  16. Do you think you will find a time in your life when you are "done' having kids. Or do you think like me and wonder about the next one?

  17. I did NOT like being pregnant. I was sick constantly and a hormonal/emotional mess... but if a close friend or relative asked I might.

  19. I breezed through Tamika's pregnancy and birth. Was sick from start to finish with Jarvis. But I LOVED being pregnant.

  21. I like to think I could do it and I'm definitely open to the idea. Especially if it is to help someone I love. But then I think about all those people worthy of having kids who can't and it makes my heart hurt and there's the potential there to even help a stranger.
I hope your daughter is ok, it's so scary when there are problems during pregnancy. Sending lots of positive thoughts and vibes her way.

  22. I am open to the idea. But I look at it like giving blood. If we are willing to receive then we should give when we can. But, in saying that I understand that it is way more than blood. It is a whole human. I just know what I went through trying to fall pregnant, and would love to be able to help others
