It has only just begun, yet
already I want to head butt a brick wall. The search for a new property to rent
is doing my head in. We were told we have two months left in our current rental, as the owner is selling. However, as this falls right in the middle of when
Justin is away, we want to have found something, and moved, before the 20th of
September.
Oh and let me tell you it is a hard thing to do. Getting a decent rental
in Brisbane , at a good price
is akin to winning lotto. We could live close to the city in a dumpster for
what we could afford, or further out. Even then, the below is an example of a two
bedroom, three quarters of an hour from the city.
I showed up today at a viewing, me and about twenty other people. Some
are nice, and will chat. You even see some at other houses you look at.
Others, like this lady today, actually have no manners what so ever. She
shoved me, to get into a room that already had way too many people in it for its
size. When I turned to her and said excuse me, she played the ‘I don’t speak English
card’. Um, I may not speak Cantonese, but I know that option!! To make it even
sillier, she had been speaking perfect English to the realtor.
It makes me sad, we all want the same thing, a place to call home that
does not break the bank. Oh, and someone to pack and move all of your stuff for you.
The other choice is I can live in a six bedroom home with ocean views,
three bathrooms, a study and four car garage for $260 a week; the only catch is
that it is on Russell Island . This one cannot
claim close to transport as a selling point.
It may just be easier to win lotto than to find a nice rental at a decent
price.
I won't pretend to know the horror but I'm hoping something perfect comes your way...soon. Tanya
ReplyDeleteIt is horrible. I am not even hoping for perfect. I will settle for something "that will do".
Deleteoh honey, how rubbish is this!!! keep going! blog it...im nosey as hell i will happily look at every house you visit! praying you guys fins a secret gem! x
ReplyDeleteAnother two houses to look at today. One ages away one close to the city. Looking at all options.
DeleteIt's why I lasted less than two months in qld. I looked at endless places and ran out of time to find something.
ReplyDeleteWill think plenty of positive things for you and hope that the right place turns up quickly, you deserve it.
We have to find something quickly. Or else I will be moving house on my own. A nightmare I do not want
DeleteHouse hunting is a pain in Brisbane! And expensive! Unfortunately all of the best houses quality and price wise tend to be in the middle of nowhere... Hope you manage to find something nice!
ReplyDeleteExactly! We can either live in a tiny dump. Or live a hour or so from the city. Rent in Brisbane is crazy
DeleteOops you shouldn't see our house...it's tiny small and falling apart...when we were trying to rent we had to face too many stupid people...good luck!
ReplyDeleteSHOVING?! to look at a house? That is absurd. I hope you shoved her back!
ReplyDeleteYes, this whole apartment and moving experience is draining. I hope you and Justin find something that suits you <3
I know! Insane isn't it! No, I did not shove back, I am way too polite for my own good. Never even use the horn on the car.
DeleteThinking we may just end up living in a cardboard box at the rate we are going. How are you going? Have you found something yet?
You don't have transport, do you. Although service in the South East is slowly improving. I guess it depends on how far out you want to go. I've been here 10 years and was lucky enough to find something quickly back then. And again when I moved 4 years ago. I lucked onto a really good realtor so I intend to rent through them as best I can. Rent is getting hard to keep up now, so I'm going to have to look at renting out a room for 2014. Eeeeep!
