Father's Day 2012

Father's Day 2012

I have a couple of self imposed rules with this 52 Series. 1: No over stylised photo shoots, get the family in their natural settings. But this week I am breaking my own rule. Only because I cannot resist sharing how adorable these images turned out.

I started an idea last year on fathers Day; I want to do a photo shoot of Justin and Jarvis each year with a theme. Last year they were lions, this year they both got to ride their main loves.

Oh, and another rule of mine has been not to complement the children's looks. Obviously everyone's children are beautiful, that goes without saying, but after reading an article. ‘How to Talk to Girls’. (I think in this day and age it also should include boys, as boys/men are also placed under so much pressure based on looks and body)

The article made me stop and think, part of Jodi's idea for this series was to help people improve their photography. So, I wanted to look at the images deeper; lighting, positioning, cropping, what is going on in the image. How has the photographer approached the subject? So my comments have been my effort for me not to resort to "cute kid".

PS, I am the cluckiest person on earth so I think all of your children are cute!

Jodi over at Che and Fidel has inspired me to pick up my camera and turn the focus inward. Since I already take 100s of photos of my children each week, so I thought I would twist the idea a little. What I never seem to get is group shots, images of the family together, whether it is my two children, Tamika and Jarvis, or me with the kids, or shots of Justin and I. So I am going to challenge myself to get one image of "my family" per week.
