15/52

I know I posted a few of the images from this shoot yesterday, but I was looking at this image and thinking about how very much I love my children. My children are my heart, they encompass so much of who I am; watching them grow and learn has taught me so much about being an adult. About being a woman. I look at these two amazing beings, and still am amazed that they were both once in my tummy.

A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.  Agatha Christie quote.

There are a few, Portrait a Week options out there. A lot involve taking a portrait of your children each week. Jodi over at Che and Fidel has inspired me to pick up my camera and turn the focus inward. Since I already take 100s of photos of my children each week, so I thought I would twist the idea a little. What I never seem to get is group shots, images of the family together, whether it is my two children, Tamika and Jarvis, or me with the kids, or shots of Justin and I. So I am going to challenge myself to get one image of "my family" per week.

    1. They do have a beautiful relationship. I am very lucky. Most mornings Jarvis wakes up and screams Ah Ah, his version of Tamika, that or he is mimicking a crow. No, he yells for his sister and the runs and bangs on her bedroom door.

    1. Thank you. It was actually hard to get any light, so over the rain in Brisbane, but just as I took this image we got a respite in the rain and the sun peaked out for just a minute. All adding up to the perfect time to take their photo

    1. They have a beautiful relationship. Tamika moved back home when I was pregnant (lasted three months out of home) all because she did not want to miss out on her brother. Teak will be 21 in December and when we are out she is often confused as being Jarvis's Mum.

And I know just what you mean...I am constantly amazed by Toddler C and by my love for him and I find it so unreal that it all began in my belly!

    1. I think that is why I get so pissed off when people ask if I adopted Jarvis. I feel like throwing a childish tantrum and stamping my foot saying "I grew him! He is part of me!" Not that I think a mother who has adopted a child would love them any less, it is just after so many years of fertility issues, sometimes I feel like screaming."I did it!"

    2. I think that happens with a lot of mothers whose children are bi-racial.

    3. Yet Justin is never ever questioned whether or not he is the father? But I have to say I do think Jarvis is so similar to Justin this is probably why. Where as people probably look at me as an old white woman with a young Asian baby/ Do you get it all of the time as well. I assumed it also had a lot to do with my age

    4. People have never asked me if I adopted Dominic, since I'm in my 20s, but sometimes they'll ask me if he's mine. & I get asked "WHAT" he is a lot. I usually reply with a smart ass remark like "1/2 white", LOL. His dad is black, but many people ask me if he's Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, etc.

    5. I get the WHAT question all of the time as well. Justin does not look what people perceive to be typically Chinese, so he also gets the WHAT question all of the time. I have even had people dispute me when I same half chinese.

    1. I was the same when I had Tamika, all I wanted was more children, so she could have a sibling. Just did not think it would take me 19 years to give her one.
